How to Leverage All Sources to Find the Best Candidates

July 19, 2021 by Michelle Heller

Finding enough qualified applicants and engaging with them quickly before they find a job elsewhere makes hiring difficult and time-consuming. If you are feeling overwhelmed with the challenging hiring environment, you’re not the only one! Here are some considerations and recommendations on how to leverage all sources to find the best candidates!

Considerations Yielding the Highest Rate of Success to Find the Best Candidates

Offline Job Marketing – walk-in’s, referrals, texting, QR code flyers:

  • Are offline capabilities used by target demographics being leveraged to the full extent?
  • Do you have an Employee Referral Program?
  • Are you promoting jobs to customers?

Other – Career Pages, Social, etc.:

  • Are job feeds being posted to a Company website and/or sent to and enabled on the corporate brand career page?
  • Are you posting jobs to applicable social media sites?

Job Board Advertising – increase posting position on job boards:

  • Does a position require advertising to ensure maximum visibility?
  • Do you understand the dynamics of job board advertising?
  • Are advertising bids set competitively for a position and geography?

Free Job Boards – Indeed, Google, Monster, etc.:

  • Are jobs being posted through multiple channels, which risks removal of duplicates by job boards?
  • Is there a large volume of comparable positions being posted and making it harder for a given job to stand out?
  • How often are jobs reposted?

After considering all the above, we’ve outlined some recommendations that we’ve seen help hundreds of our customers get more candidates!

Recommendations Yielding the Highest Rate of Successfully Finding Candidates

Offline Job Marketing – walk-in’s, referrals, texting, QR code flyers:

  • Take advantage of brand recognition. Utilize flyers, signage, receipts, business cards. A simple addition of a QR code to a business card can make the difference between being staffed or not.
  • Adapt a guerilla marketing mindset to non-job board sourcing.

Other – Career Pages, Social, etc.:

  • Ensure jobs have high visibility to non-job board applicant sources.
  • Link the job application to the career page to capture more applications.
  • Consider local hiring groups on social media and working with local unemployment offices.

Job Board Advertising – increase posting position on job boards:

  • Advertise urgent hiring needs to improve job board placement and boost visibility.
  • Shift towards promoting the most urgent jobs and away from a big assessment process.
  • Work with Efficient Hire to discuss dynamics and determine appropriate budgets.

Free Job Boards – Indeed, Google, Monster, etc.:

  • Assess how many competitive postings there are for a given position in local markets and consider the relative attractiveness of the posted position.
  • Tweak language and refresh postings every 30 – 45 days.

Being great at hiring is not easy! Hopefully, we’ve shown you some tricks to leverage all sources to find the best candidates. It takes some “try, rinse, repeat” to get into a great hiring groove. Having the right technology will go a long way to improve your hiring strategy. If you need help to find the best candidates, give us a shout!
